This ceremony is the final of a series of special events that have taken place across Canada in which Canadian Olympic Team members from last summer’s Olympic Games, as well as Canadian Olympic builders, have been honoured with the Diamond Jubilee medal.
“An athlete’s path to the podium is built on a foundation of coaching and passion and we owe a great debt to those who have selflessly contributed their talents to building Canadian sport excellence,” said Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “Without the dedication of those we celebrate today, our nation’s Olympic movement would not be on such a dramatic trajectory and for that, we sincerely thank them.”
“I have been fortunate to have had experienced many unique moments in life, and being awarded this Diamond Jubilee medal will surely be remembered,” said Sally Rehorick, Chef de Mission, Salt Lake City 2002. “I can’t help but note all the incredible national heroes that have been granted this distinction and I am humbled to be included in this list of wonderful Canadians.”

“It was an honor to represent Canada at the London 2012 Paralympics,” said Ian Chan, a London 2012 silver medallist in wheelchair rugby. “It's so nice to be recognized by our country and honored for our contributions to our communities. I am inspired to bring home a gold medal in Rio 2016!”

Provincial/Territorial coaches must at a minimum be fully certified at Level 3 or Competition Development. Archery Canada is awaiting conditional approval of its Competition Development coaching certification context from the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC). We are expecting conditional approval in the spring of 2013. Once approval is received from the CAC, Archery Canada will then be in a position to begin plans for a national training workshop and to then turn over the provincial and territorial archery associations, the delivery of the Competition Development context. To date, at least one Learning Facilitator from each province has been trained by Archery Canada (i.e., Bruce Savage, Chair of Archery Canada’s Coaching Certification Committee) to deliver Competition Development.
Archery Canada will deliver a national training workshop for Competition Development in late 2013 or early winter 2014 (possibly in the Toronto region). Archery Canada will fund one candidate per provincial and territorial archery association. Other candidates may quite possibly be invited to attend the workshop but at the provincial and territorial archery association’s expense. We are awaiting confirmation from the CAC regarding funding for this workshop. Details on the training workshop will be provided as soon as possible after confirmation of funding from the CAC. Although candidates in this national training workshop won’t be fully certified in time for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, at least they will have undergone the most important step of training in Competition Development. Under the circumstances this may suffice for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Archery Canada will pursue this matter with then Canada Games Council and seek exemption for full certification at Competition Development.
Regardless of that noted above, Provincial/Territorial Archery Associations are urged to begin recruiting their Provincial Coach where Level 3 certified coaches exist. Level 3 course are no longer delivered and are being replaced with the Competition development course.
